Older sperm can be responsible for causing miscarriages and birth defects. Older sperm also makes it more difficult for women to get pregnant, regardless of maternal age.
So even if the woman is young and healthy, studies have shown that if her partner is older, his sperm carries increased risks for the health of mother and baby.
